How a Breast Lift Works to Perk Up Your Chest Without Implants

If having children or simply taking more trips around the sun has you wishing your breasts had more sass than sag, you’ve got options. You may think surgically placed implants are your only option, but there are other choices for prettier, perkier breasts, which may be more appropriate for your needs and goals.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Laughlin and the entire team at Laughlin Plastic Surgery offer compassionate care, great knowledge, and most importantly, listening ears as they collaborate with you to make important decisions about your goals for looking your best.

If you want your breasts to look more like they did in your youth or before you gained and lost weight, a breast lift just might be the solution to bring back the firmness and perkiness that was lost.

What’s the difference between a breast lift and breast augmentation?

When patients want to increase their breast size or alter the shape of their breasts, augmentation is the way to go, or the surgical procedure where we insert implants. Implants are made of either silicone or saline and need to be refreshed about every 15 years.

Though augmentation can change the appearance of breasts dramatically, it doesn’t address sagging, a common complaint. If you’re more concerned with breast droop than shape or size, a breast lift is the more appropriate choice for you. You may even benefit from getting both procedures done.

How do I know if I’m a candidate for a breast lift?

Of course, the best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for a breast lift is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Laughlin.

An at-home test some women do that indicates the need for a lift is the “pencil test.” There’s often no test necessary for many of our patients because they just want to feel more confident when they look in the mirror and look better in their clothes and swimsuit. The decision to undergo plastic surgery is up to you, so one of the most important signs is that you’d like to make a change to your appearance.

What’s involved in a breast lift procedure?

Dr. Laughlin and his staff create a surgical experience for you that’s safe and comfortable when you get a breast lift. You choose between general anesthesia or intravenous sedation for the procedure. He carefully makes your incisions and essentially lifts and resculpts your breasts to restore their firmness and fullness.

Since your nipples and areolas sometimes stretch when your breasts sag, he may also trim your areolas if needed and position them ideally on your refreshed breasts. Once done, Dr. Laughlin concludes the procedure by closing your incisions and applying your bandages.

Amazingly, you return home the same day as your surgery. The recovery period is about 2-3 months for a breast lift, provided you take the precautions Dr. Laughlin recommends pre-surgery. You can expect to resume many of your daily activities after 2-3 weeks.

Our office will give you specific instructions when you go home that are important to follow, especially regarding what you can lift and when. You may also need pain medication for the first few weeks.

We’re certain you’ll be delighted with your new look. You can have peace of mind knowing that Dr. Laughlin and his team are available to provide any follow-up care and answer any questions you may have.
